Drop In and Upgrade Your Essential Skills

A new Essential Skills drop-in centre has just opened up that offers free training in the Essential Skills needed for specific trades.

The nine Essential Skills that are needed in every workplace are Technical Reading, Document Use, Numeracy, Writing, Oral Communication, Working with Others, Thinking Skills, Computer Use and Continuous Learning.

If you’re preparing for an exam, for certification, or just want to build up your knowledge in one or more of the Essential Skills used in every workplace and jobsite, then drop in and talk to one of our trades-experienced instructors.

Who is this for?

  • Apprentices in the workplace
  • Trades qualifiers
  • Trades people studying for exams
  • Anyone considering a trades career

When is it open?

Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 – 8 pm

Where is it?

The drop in centre is located at the Workplace Essential Skills Training (WEST) centre, located at 1000 Waverley St. (between Wilson Place and Seel Ave.).

Workplace Education Manitoba and the provincial Apprenticeship Branch, together with Manitoba Labour and Immigration, have developed a web-based resource for the trades.  Called Tradesinfo.ca, it can help you plan your career by providing detailed information on the trades in Manitoba, identifying your skills and providing tools and tips to find work in the trades.
