iWEST - Essential Skills for Immigrants

In November of 2008, WEMSC launched the virtual concept ES training service called Immigrant Workplace Essential Skills Training – or iWEST – which will provide immigrant-focused Essential Skills training and assessment services leading to learning plans, training and human resource solutions or direct referrals to appropriate external agencies.  

This ES training will be offered at the WEST Centre located at 1000 Waverley in Winnipeg, at satellite locations, and also at company and union sites as negotiated.

TRAINING SOLUTIONS    

iWEST designs and delivers customized Essential Skills training solutions which include the critical  language and cultural components immigrants need for success in the workplace. 

 

The ES training solutions for immigrants include:
•    ES training (pre-employment) for recruitment initiatives
•    Existing workforce training
•    Apprenticeship pre-college and Trades qualification ES training and assessment

ASSESSMENT    

iWEST’s assessment division will use a targeted blend of assessment strategies to identify an individual’s Essential Skill levels. 

 

Gap identification will yield learning plans and facilitated referrals to external agencies when appropriate.
