provides one-to-one, individualized Essential Skills training solutions and evaluation services leading to learning plans, training and human resource solutions or direct referrals to appropriate external agencies.

WEST Centre Winkler is located at 725-D Main Street in Winkler in the Regional Connections annex (across from Garden Valley Collegiate). We offer drop-in hours at our centre on Tuesdays 1:00 - 6:00 PM, and Thursdays 2:00 - 7:00 PM. If you have an education, training or career goal in mind, drop in and talk to an instructor about your Essential Skills needs.
We will be closed for a short summer break July 15 - July 26, 2013.

Our instructors have a wide variety of expertise in all of the Essential Skills, and hundreds of hours of experience teaching Essential Skills to adults in all types of employment and from all walks of life. Our instructors provide expert, customized instruction on a one-to-one basis and maintain high standards of professionalism in our efforts to ensure the best Essential Skills training for our clients.
Current Essential Skills programming includes:
WEST - Workplace Essential Skills Training is available in all 9 Essential Skills for:
- Existing workers
- Pre-employed or underemployed
- Apprenticeship, pre-college, and Trades qualifiers
- Immigrants (note that all instruction is only in English and we suggest a CLB of 5 or higher)
- Aboriginals
aWEST : Apprenticeship WEST - By referral from our Winnipeg main location, we provide trades-focused Essential Skills refresher training.
dWEST : Digital Technology WEST– Individualized instruction is available in basic computing skills. We use Windows based systems common to most businesses. Limited space is available.
Mathematics for Manufacturing – A self-paced course for workers in manufacturing settings, focuses on such Numeracy Skills as fractions, decimals, converting to and from metric, measurement, tolerances, and more. Participants receive a card upon successful completion.
Foundations of Blueprint Reading – Learn to read construction and manufacturing blueprints by understanding the vocabulary and abbreviations, different views and lines. Improve your blueprint reading trade math skills by practicing Imperial and Metric calculations and conversions; using fractions, decimals and percentages; rate, ratio and proportions; perimeter area and volume as well as an introduction to geometry, shapes, angles and the pythagorean theorem. Work with various sample sketches and tools; cross reference charts and other documents; and improve your communication skills when asking questions and giving instructions.
